Personal Biography

I’m an entrepreneur at heart who loves assisting others with their success through coaching, writing and speaking.

My home is in Milton Keynes in the UK with my 2 daughters and I work with clients internationally.

I believe that life is for living fully and having fun.

Organised

I'm a very organised person when something is important to me and if it's not important then I can be scatty.

Being Challenged

I thrive on work that draws on the whole of me and really challenges me in different ways. I enjoy the complexity of situations rather than it being too easy. If something too easy, I get bored easily. It takes quite a lot to keep me stimulated and interested and if that's not there I'm very unfocused. Work that challenges me to be out of my box enthuses and excites me. I'm able to give my best.

What do I find relaxing?

I find being active a great way to relax. My relaxation comes from playing squash, salsa dancing (in fact any type of dancing!), walking and socialising. I love reading and can often be found with my head in a book or two. I'm not into watching the TV and usually don't have a clue what's going on in the programmes.

Being Outrageous

Being outrageous is one of my values and for me that means living and working in an unconventional way. I enjoy having freedom and flexibility in what I do and don't like being tied down to much of a routine. When I commit to something or someone, I commit myself fully and I feel strangled if I have too many commitments. I'm more of my true self when I have the freedom to go with what I want in each an every moment.

My Background

My background was originally in accountancy working freelance and although initially my work would be accountancy related, it wasn't long before I was asked by clients to help solve other business problems. Inevitably these also had a personal focus including negotiating, delegating, managing and planning etc.

When I look back, I was doing a kind of coaching, but I didn't know what it was called then and I certainly hadn't received any formal training.

Next, I ran my own business as a franchisee for a diet and fitness club. This very much involved helping people achieve their goals. I thoroughly enjoyed this work, although increasingly I realised there was something missing for me in what I was doing. I didn't have a clue what that was, but I felt that there had to be a better way to help people achieve their goals, whatever they were. I also realised that what often prevented people from doing this were other things which impacted on their lives. Things such as lifestyle, lack of time or organisation, understanding what motivated them and stress. I didn't know what was available to empower people to make the changes required, although I was sure there must be something. Eventually, I sold the business, unsure of what to do next and not knowing who could help me understand what I wanted to do. How I wish I had known about coaching then!

I searched rather hopelessly for a new avenue or venture but I was convinced that I wanted to work for myself. One day, during a casual conversation, my sister mentioned an article she had read in She magazine. The article was about coaches, which referred to them as 'professional naggers' and she thought that would be right up my street! I bought the magazine not really thinking it might be appropriate but later that evening I happened to read the article. Suddenly it was as if someone had switched the lights on. The article defined the role of coaches and it felt absolutely right for me - this was what I'd been searching for but didn't know it! I knew straight away that coaching was what I wanted to do. The next day I enquired about coach training and enrolled immediately. That was just over 7 years ago.

I focus on what works for clients and assist them to eliminate what doesn’t work in their life. I believe that coaching is about assisting a client to learn to make better decisions rather than about giving advice. Although I may give advice if asked, I encourage you to look at the choices, explore all your options and support you in making your own decisions.
