Time Management For Women

If you’re searching for help for time management for women, you’ll find this here. Do you ever end your days feeling like you just haven't achieved enough? Is your leisure and family time taking a back seat to your professional life? Do you find that you don't have time for the things that matter to you?

For most of us the answer to these questions is 'yes', and it is not a good feeling. You may be under stress because you are not achieving enough in your professional life. Or you feel that you just do not have the time to achieve your goals in life.

Don't worry, it may not be as bad as you think. There is a solution to this problem and it is far easier than you might think. Simply by changing the way you approach the use of your time you can find the hours to do all the things you want to, and even have some time left over. This is not only about managing your time effectively, it can change your life fundamentally and for the better.

Time management for women includes managing yourself

There are 24 hours in the day. This is something that will not change and we can do nothing about it. While you may not be able to control this, you can manage yourself. Once you realize this you have taken the first step towards effective time management. You have to identify the things in life that truly matter to you - this is where you should spend your time. Everything else is just a waste of time.

Managing your time effectively will bring about some dramatic improvements in your life, but you must be prepared to make some fundamental changes. However, there is no need to rush, you can make the necessary changes at your own pace. Trying to make big changes at the beginning might be too much for you, so start with small steps.

Time management for women: You need to understand yourself

Knowing yourself is the essential first step on the road to effective time management. As we grow older it is easy to lose track of the things that really matter to us in life. For most people, this is an unfortunate fact of life.

Therefore, the first thing you need to do before you even begin to manage your time is to get in touch with what you really want from life. This is where you find your vision. Remember a time earlier in your life when you felt anything was possible. How did you envisage your life at that time? What you wanted then may really be what you want now, it may just be that you have lost sight of your true vision. No doubt, some priorities will have changed, but many will have remained the same.

You should also think about how you would like your life to be both in terms of your professional life and your personal life. You should also think about your capabilities and what is possible for you in life. We will call this your vision.

Where are you now?

If you followed the steps above you should be able to picture your ideal life accurately. The next step is tricky. You need to look at your life now and compare it to your vision, to how you would really like your life to be like. If you are writing all of this down, the difference between the two probably will not make for very pleasant reading.

However, do not let this phase you as it is always possible to bridge the gap between the two if you believe in yourself. You may think of effective time management as a tool that will help you to get you to meetings on time. This is not the case. Effective time management is much more about you and how you choose to spend your time.

Achieving your ideal reality will involve little changes and big changes in your life. For example, watching less television, that is a little change. A major change could be quitting your job to travel the world. However, both are achievable with the right approach. You will have to take a close look at how your hours are spent and make the necessary adjustments so you can achieve what you want to achieve.

Planning your day.

You should start by picking two things you want to achieve, one big and one small. Once you have chosen, you should decide on one small step you can take towards achieving each of these tomorrow. If you can do this, and complete those steps then you are on the way.

In truth, there is much more to it than this but this will show you that it is far from impossible and can be very rewarding. However, doing this effectively requires a lot of planning so that you complete all of the tasks you need to do each day while ensuring that all of these tasks are in line with your vision.

So for every day you need a clear plan, a time plan. You need to have a very clear idea of what needs to be done, how long it will take, and when it is going to be done. At the beginning it can be difficult to know how long each task will take so it may be a good idea to keep a time log for a week before starting to keep a time plan. In your time log you need to write down what you do every day and how long it takes. Keeping a time log for a week should give you a clear picture of how long the various tasks you need to do take. When you know how long each task will take, you can plan your day much more accurately.

The 4 Ds of time management

To truly manage your time effectively you have to look at the tasks that need doing and decide how to handle them. For this you will need the four Ds of self-management. These are:

* Do it - Get it done, the sooner the better. * Delegate it - It needs to be done, but someone else can take care of it. * Dump it - This is not important, thrash it. * Defer it - This needs to be done, but it can wait until later.

When you plan your day, and even during the day, you should be able to file all the things that need doing under one of the four Ds.

Try to identify the time wasters that are holding you back and eliminate them from your life.

These were just a few tips to get you started. Breaking old habits isn't easy so take the changes you need to make one step at a time. As you take it step by step, you will gradually move closer to your ideal life, a life where there is plenty of time for the things you want to do.
